Book List
Survival and related novels, the end of the world as we know it (TEOTWAWKI). Most of these are written by former United States Army, especially Army intelligence and United States Air Force SERE training officers with domestic and international experience. The format is a story in which the protagonists live experiences and react to them in ways and using resources you are expected to emulate and master in your own preparation. Some contains lists of resources; most do not so if you're interested making a list, take notes as you read.
The basic format and plot of these novels is one of:
- The heroes have a retreat far outside population centers that they've been preparing for years; they've been preparing their skills, but accept additional members at their retreat.
- The heroes are caught a long way from home with the impossibility of returning easily either because they're in a foreign land or there's too much grid devastation to be transported there; the story is their struggle to gain their home or place of retreat meeting helpful and unhelpful people along the way.

About the authors and their novels. These comments are based on public information and, when judgmental, are based on book content.
- Bruce Buckshot Hemming, trapper, trainer, consultant and non-Christian writer, stories warn against mistreatment of women, but are not graphic about it. Very little profanity.
- Jonathan Hollerman, SERE instructor and Christian. No profanity.
- James Wesley, Rawles, Evangelical Christian writer, ex-Army intelligence, first Gulf War, no profanity.
- A. G. Fredericks, ex-librarian seeking to fulfill a social obligation to open eyes; makes use of gratuitous, but not pervasive of profanity.
- Angery (sic) American, non-Christian survival instructor and outdoorsman, near pervasive profanity including the F-word in dialog.
- Ayn Rand, needs no introduction except to say that it's not anything to do with survival per se. No profanity. Atlas Shrugged is something like 1100 pages in paperback.
