The vocative

The vocative is the case of the noun (person, place or thing) addressed.

Sancta Maria: ora pro nobis. (Holy Mary, pray for us.)

 

Pie Jesu Domine: Dona eis requiem. (Holy Jesus, Lord: give them eternal rest.)
